The Chinook Winds present "Changing Colors"
The Great Falls Symphony’s Chinook Winds presents two performances of Changing Colors. These performances introduce oboist Lauren Blackerby and bassoonist Dorian Antipa—the newest members to the ensemble and to the Great Falls community. Ms. Blackerby hails from Colorado where she performed with the Colorado Ballet Orchestra, Music in the Mountains Festival, and Colorado Springs Philharmonic. Originally from California, Mr. Antipa has slowly been making his way back west after completing doctoral studies in Hartford and performing and teaching in Chicago. Changing Colors performances take place on October 23rd at the First Congregational UCC and on October 25th at the C.M. Russell Museum.
Dorian Antipa, bassoon, comments, “The performance opens with Hungarian composer, György Ligeti’s Six Bagatelles, a perennial favorite of the quintet repertoire which invokes music of mournful laments, love songs, and wild village dances. Simon Shaheen’s Dance Mediterrania begins with a somber and dramatic flute solo that develops into all five players taking an excitingly raucous ride through Persian melodies, jazz influence, improvised solos, and virtuosic playing for all.”
The Chinook Winds performs Changing Colors at 2pm on Sunday, October 23, at the 1st Congregational United Church of Christ, and at 7pm on Tuesday, October 25, at the C.M. Russell Museum. Receptions for audience members follow both performances. Admission is $15 Adults / $5 Students. Season passes are available for purchase for $75 Adults / $25 Students.
